It’s been announced that the Golden Globe trophy for this year’s 76th Golden Globe awards will contain an NFC authentication tag.

The new award has been designed by design agency R/GA and incorporates and NFC tag powered by technology provided by R/GA ventures company Digiseq based in London.

The tag serves two purposes. It acts as an authentication device to ensure that non-genuine Golden Globe awards don’t appear on the market at any time in the future. It also stores information (or links to connected information) regarding the award itself such as the category and name of the winner. In doing so, each award then becomes a genuinely unique item.
